The Nolasco clan grand reunion started five years ago, from a simple desire of our Mama Be, my father's younger sister. And on her 50th birthday, the Nolasco of Tupi, South Cotabato had the first meeting for the said activity. Set on May of 2012, March of the said year Mama Be died. But then her desire to unite the clan continues to live in each one of us until this very day.
On its 5th year, the clan decided to make it more significant, with a suggestion from a young family member, to hold a random blood sugar testing and diabetes awareness talk. The blood letting program came up, that as a family, we will not just gather to catch-up but to make a significant impact to our community.
With the help of every family member, this year's reunion was attended by 308 family members, with a first time attendees from; Zamboanga City, Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, Tacurong City, Davao City and Sto.Nino. All promised to be back next year and to inform more relatives to join the reunion.
This year's reunion was at the Nolasco Farm in Bololmala, Tupi, South Cotabato. It started with a devotional led by Tita Freni Perdajas' children, right after were the various activities planned for the day.
The blood letting activity in partnership with Red Cross of the Philippines, South Cotabato Chapter, yeilded 23 bags of blood. According to Red Cross, for an event to be considered successful, there must be atleast 20 bags donated. While the blood letting activity is on-going, Dr. Rizaldy Nolasco, encouraged family members to donate blood and inforemed them of the benefits one gets from donating blood. After a community lunch, a yearly practice to bring-your-own baon gave more than enough food for everyone. Tito Nestor Nolasco's daughter, Nestle gave a talk on diabetes awareness, it has been a very interesting topic for our oldies since most have or at the pre-diabetic stage.
This year's reunion would not be possible without the support and effort exerted by each family member. From the "tagbas/grass cutter" group, medical volunteers who assisted the Red Cross, door prices and token donors and to youngest member who attended, made this year Nolasco Grand Reunion a SUCCESS! See you next year.
2018's family reunion was scheduled a Sunday after Easter Sunday at Pedro Estalin's Farm, Lunen, Tupi, South Cotabato.
